Old news, new news, weird news....

Hello all,

As my second Ty infusion approaches, I'm finding that a couple of minor infections have developed since the first infusion. I will be informing the Ty nurse about these, of course. These infections are listed as possible effects, so I'm not completely surprised that it happened.

Dave, Jim, have you experienced this?

  1. Good morning Kim,

It has warmed up to +25 degrees F. and we are expecting temps up to the mid-40's today!

I have not had any infections caused by the Tysabri. I have had no infections period. I would quite often get very small localized infections around a wood splinter in my hand or finger, but those I don't count. That has always happened if I let the splinter fester for a while.

What sort of infections are you talking about Kim?

    Do tell,

    Dave

  2. Hi, Dave,

I'm having an outbreak of genital herpes, something that hasn't happened in three years. Of course, I might have just been due for an outbreak, one never knows.

And, my gums have been more irritated and require more attention. I guess gingivitis has been getting a bit more aggressive over the past few months, so I've ramped up the flossing/brushing/oral rinse.

These two infections have been listed as possible side effects of Tysabri. If I have more trouble with these in the near future, I know what to do, so I'll just keep a lookout.

  3. Hi Kim,

I have month sores, kind of like canker sores. They come and go. I had some after an early infusion, #3 or 4 but none since until now, #11 was 3 weeks ago. There not bad. I do floss and using mouthwash.

In Oct 2008 I started Rebif and had major problem with them, hurt to eat, causing me to go the doc and get a precrip for "hydrocorti/nystatin". This worked. It's industrial mouthwash.

  4. Hi, Jim,

Thanks for the info. I haven't had canker sores since I was a kid, but I remember how painful they were. I might ask my dentist for that stronger mouthwash you mentioned to fight the gingivitis a little better.

  5. Good morning Kim,

It is +10 deg. F. this morning but should warm to around 50 or so.

I have never had to contend with genital herpes but my wife gets them every now and then (wrong sexual partner in her past!). No gum problems either. I am just a lucky guy I guess!

I hope this is not going to be a regular occurance with the Tysabri.

  6. Dave and Kim,

I have gotten the sores taking both Rebif and Tysabri. However, they were much worse on Rebif along with many other side-effects.

Oh, it's a beautiful, sunny 75 deg day here.

  7. Hi, Jim,

I'm quickly healing up and feeling better now. Tysabri #2 on Friday.

Crazy April. Seventy-eight one day, and the heat kicks on the next with severe frost warnings. Oy.

It is a bit frosty here this morning but still, it is "spring" so maybe it will get into the mid-40's!
